Carvique · South Africa
Distinctive wooden pieces for kitchen, table & gifting.
Tasmanian Blackwood pieces for the kitchen, the table and the people you gather around them. Choose a Carvique design as it is, or make it unmistakably yours with personalised engraving.
The collections

Personalised engraving
The engraving becomes part of the board.
A name, a date, a family message or a logo. Your design is laser engraved, filled with our food-safe formulation, then sanded and finished flush with the timber. It feels smooth under your hand and cleans like the rest of the board.
From prep to the table.

Gifting
We turn wood into memories.
A gift that gets used every week and still carries the day it was given. Add a handmade craft gift box and a personalised card, and we can deliver straight to the person it's for.
Corporate gifting
A gift clients and staff will keep.
Your logo, and each recipient's name if you like, engraved into a board they'll use for years. We handle packaging, cards and delivery as one managed service.

Crafted for the table.
Tasmanian Blackwood
Chosen for its rich grain, with pale honey bands running beside deep brown.
Naturally individual
The grain varies from board to board. Yours will not match anyone else's.
Made in South Africa
Cut, finished, engraved and packed here by skilled artisans.
Finished flush
Engraving is filled and sanded level, so the surface stays smooth and easy to clean.
Our purpose

Care
Keep it looking good.
Wash by hand, dry it standing up, and condition it with Carvique Protective Balm when the timber starts to look dry. That's most of it.
Choose one as it is, or make it yours.

Every piece is Tasmanian Blackwood, made in South Africa. Any board can be personalised.
Personalise
Engraved, filled, finished flush.
Most engraving leaves a groove. Ours doesn't. The design is engraved, filled with Carvique's food-safe formulation, then sanded level with the timber, so the surface is smooth and easier to clean than a recessed mark.

The method
Engraved
Your wording or artwork is laser engraved into the board.
Filled
The engraving is filled with our food-safe formulation.
Finished flush
The surface is sanded and finished level. Run a hand across it and you feel timber, not a groove.

The Craft
Grain, weight and finish.
Material
Tasmanian Blackwood.
Our principal timber is Tasmanian Blackwood, selected for its rich, naturally varied grain. Pale honey staves sit beside deep brown ones, often in the same board.
That variation is the character of the wood. Colour, figure and the occasional knot differ from piece to piece, so the board you receive will not be identical to the one in the photograph. It will be the only one like it.
Thickness guide
Two weights of board.
The two edges on the right are drawn to scale with each other.
≈ 20 mm
Lighter in the hand. For everyday prep and for serving.
≈ 30 mm
Heavier, with more presence and durability. The format for statement pieces and prominent engraving.

Making & finish
Hand finished in South Africa.
Each piece is made by skilled artisans, hand finished and given a food-safe finish. Engraving is filled and sanded flush rather than left as a recess, which keeps the surface smooth and simple to clean.
Care
Keep it looking good.
A Blackwood board asks for very little. Wash it by hand, let it dry, and feed the timber now and then.

The routine
Wash, dry, condition.
Wash by hand
Warm water, a little dish soap and a cloth or soft brush, soon after use.
Dry it standing
Wipe it down, then stand the board on its edge so air reaches both faces.
Condition the timber
When the surface starts to look dry or pale, work in a little Carvique Protective Balm with the microfibre cloth and buff off any excess.
Good to know.
What to avoid
Dishwashers, long soaks in the sink, and excessive heat.
Timber moves
Wood responds to moisture and temperature. Drying it evenly and conditioning it keeps that movement small.
Engraved boards
The design is finished flush, so you clean an engraved board exactly like a plain one.
Marks from use
Knife lines and a deepening colour are what a used board looks like. Balm keeps them looking like character.

About
Made here, by people who are good at it.
Carvique
Useful objects, properly made.
Carvique makes wooden pieces for the kitchen, the table and for giving. They are refined enough to gift and robust enough to use every day.
We start with the timber and let the grain lead. The shapes are simple, the finish is careful, and personal detail is worked into the piece instead of added on top. A board should be handled, cut on and passed around.
Local making
Good work needs steady demand.
Every Carvique piece is made in South Africa by skilled artisans.
Making, finishing, engraving, packing and fulfilment all happen here. Carvique was set up to connect practical skills with real market demand: local people making products that others want to buy. Each order keeps that work going.
Premium, not precious
Made to be used daily and still worth giving.
Timber first
Grain and form are the design. We keep everything else quiet.
Personal, with restraint
Names, dates and marks, set into a piece that works.
Individually finished
Natural variation, hand finishing and your own engraving.
Our purpose
A purpose conscious company.
Why it matters to us
Good boards, made the right way.
Carvique is a purpose conscious company. We care about how each piece is made as much as how it looks on your counter.
That shapes three things: the energy we use, where our wood comes from, and who does the making. We use environmentally friendly processes throughout, and we would rather grow carefully than cut corners on any of them.
How we work
Renewable energy
We use renewable energy for our electricity.
Sustainable wood sourcing
The timber we work with is sustainably sourced.
Local artisan jobs
Every piece is made in South Africa, and every order helps create work for local artisans.
Partner with us
Let’s do more good together.
We want to partner with other purpose conscious organisations and individuals to make a positive difference across environmental, people and animal causes.
If you run a cause, a project or a business that shares this, we would like to hear from you.

Help & contact
Common questions
What timber do you use?
Tasmanian Blackwood, selected for its rich and naturally varied grain.
Will my board look like the photograph?
It will be the same design, but the grain and colour are its own. Timber varies from piece to piece, and that is part of what you are buying.
What is the difference between 20 mm and 30 mm?
Boards of about 20 mm are lighter and suit everyday prep and serving. Boards of about 30 mm are heavier statement pieces with more presence and durability.
How is the engraving done?
Your design is laser engraved, filled with our food-safe formulation, then sanded and finished flush with the surface. The result is smooth and easier to clean than a recessed engraving.
What can I have engraved?
Names, dates, messages, family wording, logos, company marks, QR codes and occasion artwork. For anything more involved, send us an enquiry.
Will I see a proof first?
For uploaded logos and complex artwork we send a proof and wait for your approval before production.
Can you send a gift straight to someone?
Yes. We deliver nationwide in South Africa and can send directly to the recipient, with a handmade craft gift box and a personalised card.
How do I look after my board?
Wash by hand, dry it standing, keep it out of the dishwasher, and condition it with Carvique Protective Balm. See the care guide.
Do you take corporate orders?
Yes, including runs with a shared logo and individual names. Start a corporate enquiry.
